THE FAMILY HEALTH CLINIC
Our friendly and professional team has been providing quality medical services
and preventive health education to the community for over twenty years.

In late 1970's, Chinatown Service Center recognized that access to low-cost health care for Asian immigrants was limited due to linguistic and cultural issues. In order to meet the health needs of the community, CSC established the Family Health Clinic in 1980 to provide accessible, affordable, and culturally-appropriate health services. Funded by the California Family Health Council, the Clinic began offering family planning and women's health related services. Volunteer doctors provided limited primary health care for family planning and prenatal patients. As the community needs became more specific, the Clinic began expanding its services to cover more primary health care patients through additional state and federal funding in 1989. Services were available not only to women but also for their families-husband, children, and the elderly.

Currently, with over 15 full-time staff, the Clinic provides quality health care services to over 4,000 low-income individuals and families, mainly Chinese and Vietnamese, representing over 10,000 patients visits a year. Our full-time/ part-time/ volunteer physicians, nurse practitioner, licensed vocational nurse, and other healthcare professionals provide primary and perinatal care, immunization, family planning counseling tobacco control, Hepatitis B, breast cancer awareness and other health services. To promote disease prevention and health maintenance among immigrant families, the Clinic's community health workers and outreach staff provide health education onsite as well as in the community. Through community outreach activities, Clinic health workers are able to educate and provide information on the importance of primary health care and CSC's low-cost services. The Clinic ensures all services are available for the uninsured, under-served individuals who would otherwise go without care.
