    A new affordable housing project is currently in development. Cesar Chavez Gardens will be a 46 unit low-income apartment complex with a child care center. For more information, read the press release on the October 12, 2001 Groundbreaking Ceremony.

    Chinatown Service Center completed its first affordable housing development, Casanova Gardens, in 1999. It contains 27 units of low-income apartment units.

    Small Business Assistance
    CSC's Small Business Assistance Program provides free services in:
  • Business permits and licensing information for startup and existing businesses.
  • Loan information and packaging.
  • Individualized one-on-one business counseling
  • Industry-related workshops on various topics, such as County
  • Health Inspections, Understanding Lease Agreements, Access to Capital and many other topics
  • Quarterly newsletters to local Chinatown Food Businesses and Retail Apparel shops that provide them with important information to help their business

    Community Projects
    CSC's Community Economic Development Department, in conjunction with the Chinatown Business Improvement District (BID) has completed many projects to benefit the overall Chinatown community. Past and current projects include:
  • Over 100 new trees planted in Chinatown
  • Began a Streetlight Banner Project around Chinatown
  • Developed new public benches
  • Established a new Chinatown BID website
  • Restoration, repair and recognition of Chinatown's cultural landmarks

    Consumer Education Projects
    CSC is also involved with projects that promote economic self-sufficiency. This includes providing information on:
  • Financial literacy and credit counseling
  • Homeownership education to potential homeowners.
  • Business resource library for local merchants searching for business information.
  • Provide licensing and technical assistance for applicant interested in establishing a Childcare Center and/or a Family Childcare Facility.
